Lauren Fields, Piano Instructor
Lauren Starboard Fields, a native of Newport News, studied piano locally for 10 years and participated in the Federation Festival, MTNA, and National Piano Guild auditions. She graduated from Menchville High School where she played viola and harp in the orchestra and accompanied choral ensembles. Attending Meredith College in Raleigh, NC on the Harris Academic Scholarship and Music Talent Scholarship, she earned a Bachelor of Music in Applied Piano, and a Master of Music in Performance and Pedagogy in Piano and Composition. As a magna cum laude graduate, she was inducted into Kappa Nu Sigma, Sigma Alpha Iota and Silver Shield. She has taught piano to students of all ages for 40 years and formerly owned Lauren Fields Piano Studio in the Raleigh, NC area. She has served as Chair of the NC Yamaha Clavinova Festival and Raleigh Piano Guild auditions, Adjudicator for NC Federation of Music Clubs and Durham Music Teachers Association auditions, as well as Lecturer/Clinician for the NC Music Teachers National Assoc. convention, Raleigh Piano Teachers Association workshops, and Meredith College master classes. National Guild of Piano Teachers and National Federation of Music Clubs are organizations in which she holds membership, which affords her students adjudication and award opportunities. She has also served as Music Minister of five churches, directing multiple Adult/Youth/Children's choirs, Praise & Worship teams, Orchestras and Handbell choirs. She is a member of the Virginia Choral Society and enjoys composing music. |
